How to Ship Packages Internationally with UrShipper

New to international shipping or need a refresher? Learn the best practices for seamless shipping processes with UrShipper and follow these steps to help your shipment be dispatched smoothly, and arrive at its destination on time and without getting caught in customs.

1. Ensure the item can be shipped.

When you decide to ship internationally, you need to familiarize yourself with rules and regulations. Different than local or domestic shipping, international shipping has an added level of complexity – a parcel has to pass through customs when it leaves its origin country, and it must pass through customs again to enter the destination country.

UrShipper has a list of Prohibited Goods that are not accepted or require special conditions to ship. Shipping general items like common fashion products are normally okay and do not require any special customs documents. If you are unsure whether your product can be shipped or not, you may consult with our team at [email protected].

2. Gather important information.

Well-preparation will get your shipments to where they’re going seamlessly. Before creating your shipping label, make sure you have enough information as follows:

  • Receiver's name, address, phone number, and email.

The receiver's name should at least contain the first name and last name. If not, customs at the destination might reject the entry of your shipment. For B2B shipments, you may also include the receiver's company name, tax ID, and EORI number.

The address should be complete and correct, this includes the street name, building name, house or apartment room number, along with the city and postal code. Bad address is on the top list of why a package becomes undelivered. Keep in mind that shipping to a PO Box, APO & FPO address is not allowed.

Also, make sure that the receiver's phone number is valid and contactable. Best to also gather the receiver's email address - so they will be notified in two ways if there's an important update with their shipment.

  • Details of the goods you are shipping

Be noted that the customs at the destination country want to know the details of every item in your shipment, along with the quantity and value of each item. Providing clear goods descriptions, proper value of your goods, along with the correct HS Code of each unique item you ship will help to avoid your shipment getting stuck at customs.

  • Weight and dimensions of your package

Accurate measurements are crucial to get an accurate estimated shipping cost. If you need to guess, be as close as possible to avoid unexpected surprises by huge price differences between the estimate and the final charge.

3. Pack your goods.

Proper packaging will help your shipment reach its destination safely and in the intended condition. Use a new/sturdy box to make sure the package arrives intact, and leave no empty space to keep it cost-efficient.

If you are shipping soft goods, and malleable items like paper, clothes, and other nonfragile small items, you can request polymailer (FedEx Large Pak) supplies from UrShipper for FREE! Just Contact Us or directly pick them up at UrShipper Office.

Please note that all shipments must be already packed before you handover to UrShipper. We do not offer a packing service - so we cannot pack your goods for you.

4. Check your shipping rates.

You can get an instant quote directly using Rate Calculator to get an idea of how much it will cost to ship your package. The estimated cost will also be shown at the last step of the creating shipping labels on your shipping dashboard.

Just please note that the rates at this stage are still estimates and may be different than the final charges of your shipment. Differences may occur based on the Actual Weight or Volumetric Weight confirmed by UrShipper when receiving your package.

5. Create your shipping label.

Use your UrShipper Dashboard to create and print shipping labels from your computer or your phone. When creating a shipping label, you will need to provide the sender’s and receiver’s names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers. Then, add the goods descriptions, quantity, and value of each type of item in your shipment, along with the weight and dimensions of the package.

Once you've created your shipping label, you will get a UrShipper Shipment ID and be able to print the shipping label. Finish preparing the package by printing your label and stick it to the package. If you don’t have a printer, you may write down the UrShipper Shipment ID on your package with a marker. Make sure you don’t tape over or cover the barcode or the UrShipper Shipment ID in any way - as we'll use it to scan/identify your package.
